I will admit something. I felt lost this week because I didn’t know what topic to choose for this. And then I had a moment of serendipity. What if I wrote about video games that don’t exist? As in, video games that were cancelled. Picking only five items was difficult because there are plenty more games like these, but here are the ones I chose!
If you like this topic, I can’t recommend Unseen64 enough. They uploaded some of the videos I posted here and they’re basically an archive about this kind of thing.
Fear and Respect
I remember reading about this game back when I bought video game magazines. Even though it looked like a GTA clone I found it interesting because John Singleton was involved and Snoop Dogg was going to be the main character. Nothing came out of it though.
Gotham By Gaslight
Before the Arkham games happened, there were plans to make a Steampunk Batman game, inspired by the one-shot with the same name. Sadly nothing came out of it because THQ couldn’t secure the license. Some years ago this test footage appeared and that’s how I heard about this.
Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans
This is another one I remember from magazines, but from when I was a kid. Many years ago, Blizzard tried to make a 2D point and click adventure expanding the story of Warcraft. Russian studio Animation Magic made 22 minutes of animation but because of delays and miscommunication (and adventure games falling out of favour) the game got cancelled.
I just have no words. I’m still hurt by this and I’m never letting go.
Steven Seagal is the Final Option
Another thing I remember seeing in a magazine as a kid, supposedly it was going to be a Super Nintendo game.
There’s a reason why I left this game for the end. This is one of the worst games I have ever seen and played (I once tried a ROM on an emulator, wasted time).
Any unmade games you can think of? Let us know in the comments!
