Fantastic Books and Where to Buy Them (And Shelve Them)

Earlier this week, the lovely Stjepan Šejić announced a hardcover special edition of his graphic novel, Sunstone. The book is scheduled to release in March next year and it looks like a gorgeous piece of work. Unfortunately, in what I believe may be the missed opportunity of the century for a man who loves puns as much as Sejic seems to, this hardcover release is not going to be Leatherbound.

Setting this aside, I got lost on the trail of special edition books Amazon had been recommending me. After that, had a wander over to etsy, because a set of nice books needs a nice shelf to display them.

Marvel/DC Graphic Novel Collection

The individual entires of the Eaglemoss Collection aren’t hugely stunning on their own. They’re a set of nicely finished, high quality hardbacks at the decent price of €10-15. Alone, that’s not much to set them apart from other premiere hardbacks. No, what makes these collections a Must Have for me, is the spine. As each book is added to the respective sets, an amazing panorama by Alex Ross is built up. Either of the full collected sets cuts an imposing figure stacked together on a wall. The sets are available at a discount via subscription direct from Eaglemoss. Individual books are also available, but at a slightly higher price point.

Nanananana Batshelf!

Of course, if you want to store all those hardbacks, you’re going to need a pretty nerdy (and sturdy) bookshelf. Enter The Batshelf! It might take some creative carpentry to get a strong enough wall mount to hold everything up, but if you do, you’ll have one hell of an obelisk to nerdom. The Batman Bookshelf is available from Royal Deco for £277.

I couldn’t have a title like that an not include some of hpslipcasethe recovers and collections of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter. Living with a bona fide Potterhead means I’ve seen my fair share of variants for the series. While the original art will always have a special place in my heart, it’s hard to look bnhlat the new children’s editions and not feel the urge to shell out for them, especially when packaged in a nice slipcase. This is one of those cases where the images don’t do it justice, because the real deal looks immaculate.

Nice as that looks, if you want to complete the set, you’ll need to grab the short stories too. Luckily, Barnes and Noble have us covered for that too. While this case may not be made to perfectly match the other set, they do look fairly well together, although £80 for three short books is a bit overkill.

For The Wellbeing Of Your Wallet, Look Away Now

So, there are plenty of chair/bookshelf hybrids, some of them better thought out than others. For the most part, any standard combination of the two looks like it’ll either wreck a book’s spine, or wreck your own. There is one however, that dares to rise above, providing a comfy as heck looking slouch seat, with a ton of storage to boot. Ladies and gentlemen, I present… The Tatik.

A sizable piece of furniture if ever there was one, with storage aplenty on all three sides, this behemoth is not for the floorspace impaired… Nor the faint of wallet with a starting price of over $4000
