Guardians of the Galaxy director and all-round chill guy James Gunn took some time to reveal some early concept art of Yondu recently on his Instagram.
Yondu, for those who may have forgotten, was Quill’s adoptive father. Michael Rooker played the role in the movie. While the finished design more than did the job, it’s clear to see here that the character almost had a very different look. Andrew Kim created this incredible piece of work, depicting Yondu as a more tribal and warriorlike character.
For a lighthearted and fun movie, perhaps this design was a little much. What do you guys think? Did they make the right call in changing the design? Or would a more fearsome looking Yondu have suited the movie? Let us know in the comments below!
