Dublin’s premier Quidditch team is moving forward with it’s plan for world domination by recruiting at major local universities. The newly named team, the triple alliteration of Dublin Draoíchta Dragons, has a new logo and is gearing up for Freshers Week at DIT’s Grangegorman campus.

The no longer fictional sport is known for gathering around mostly university teams and with a strong Harry Potter fan-base installed in Dublin’s college community, it is no surprise that this strategy is being used to extend recruitment circles. As The Arcade has reported previously, a DIT student is among the original set-up group for the team  and the facilities and support of the college will be useful in developing the team’s training program. The trainings, so far in a public park in Clontarf, thus far have gone well but as the team expands it is good to have the support of a college.

Expo Experience

The team so far are having an Expo on the sport next week, so if you’re near Grangegorman come and have a look on Wednesday September 28th at 3pm. For everyone else, the ordinary open trainings continue later in the week at Fairview Park. These are open to everyone, even those who want to come and watch, and are great fun should you want to give it a go. The team is currently non-contact so all you need is your runners/trainers/sneakers. You can find out more as always at the Facebook page  and let your friends know about the events both on Facebook and Meetup.

The future is bright and free of The Grim as there is hopes for a national game some time soon as UCC Cork and Queen’s Belfast have recently set about making teams while the Galway Grindylows continue strong at NUI. With the next World Cup in two years, it’s looking like Ireland Quidditch will succeed with some Felix and team spirit; just grab your broom and aim for the stars!
