The Dark Tower TV Series Is In Development

A couple of weeks ago, Ron Howard confirmed that his plans for The Dark Tower involved both films and TV series. On September 21, the producers were more specific about what this series would involve. The date they chose is not a coincidence – it was Stephen King‘s 69th birthday.

Both MRC and Sony are behind this TV series. And they have greenlit a full season. They estimate it’d be a 10 to 13 episodes season, depending on the story arcs. Shooting will start next year, with the intention of having the series premiere on 2018, right when the first film hits home media and streaming.

They still don’t have a TV channel or streaming platform for the show, but they will start preparing it anyway, rather than waiting for a partner. Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinkner, Ron Howard, and Brian Glazer will be executive producers. Both Nicolaj Arcel, who is directing the film, and Anders Thomas Jensen, who co-wrote it with Arcel, will work on the script of the show but will hire someone else as a showrunner.

Both Idris Elba and Tom Taylor will reprise their roles as Roland Deschain and Jake Chambers. Most probably in a reduced capacity because they will only be framing the story. This series will be an adaptation of the fourth book in the series, Wizard And Glass. The bulk of this book involved Roland telling his ka-tet the story of how his quest for the Dark Tower began, back before the world moved on.

Stephen King also posted this image on his Facebook. He’s been teasing The Dark Tower for a while already, but this one is different. This map shows the Barony of Mejis, where this TV series will take place.

There are other worlds than these, but in this one we’re getting a Dark Tower film and TV series. And hopefully more films after that. Don’t you think that’s great? Let us know in the comments!
