The new The Ring sequel, Rings, has its first trailer. Despite it being over a decade since The Ring 2, very little has been changed to the tone and core concept of the movie series.
A young couple are haunted by Samara, the girl who kills anyone who watches her tape. However, with Rings, the idea has been tweaked slightly, with the video that Samara haunts having gone online, and the fascination with it being the subject of an online cult following.

Outside of the use of a landline, this mostly checks out! As far as a 2016 iteration of a film that centered on more analog technologies, there’s potential here for this to deliver. Particularly, the opening shot of Samara coming out of the flat-screen TV and the queasy transformation Matilda Lutz goes through are suitably chilling.
The official synopsis reads:
“A new chapter in the beloved Ring horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…”
