If you’re an avid Marvel comics fan, you’re well familiar with the new Civil War II arc, but you may not be too clued in on the upcoming roster change for one of the comic world’s best known heroes, Iron Man. The armour clad hero isn’t going away, however; he’s just getting an upgrade (and a different gender).

Meet Riri Williams, a 15 year old science genius and college student at MIT, who comes to the attention of Tony Stark after building her own Iron Man suit in her dorm. Created by Iron Man writer Brian Michael Bendis, she is noticed by Stark while he is in the midst of dealing with life-changing events. Details on how she takes on the Iron Man mantle are still under wraps for the time being.

Although some readers have questioned whether this announcement has given away Civil War II‘s ending, Bendis has assured fans that this is not the case. In an exclusive interview with Time, Bendis said, “More people are going to be upset that they think they know the ending to Civil War II now than anything we just talked about. But I can tell you just because we’re hearing what we’re saying doesn’t know you mean how Civil War II ends. We’re not telling you the end, at all.”

She was recently introduced in issues of Invincible Iron Man, and even appeared on the cover, though many at the time speculated that it was actually Mary Jane Watson in the suit. Hint: It’s not.

We here at The Arcade are very excited to see where they take the character. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
