Arrested Development creator and show-runner Mitchell Hurwitz has announced the show will begin filming its fifth season early 2017. Many fans of the sitcom hoped a new season would arrive soon after its fourth. The series was picked up by Netflix, after being dropped by FOX. Hurwitz promised a while ago that a script for season five was in the works. He recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter to give an update on its progress.

We’re very close,” he claimed. “It’s a thing I really am desperate to do. We’ve got a lot of the stories broken. We’re kinda ready to go. I’m so appreciative of the fans wanting more, I hate to tease them with information that there is going to be more until we know for sure, but it’s what we’re trying to accomplish and if does happen, it looks like shooting would be at the start of 2017. That’s what I’m hoping.”

Fans haven’t seen a new season since fifteen episodes were released on Netflix in May of 2013.

What To Expect?

The main cast is set to return and a promise of 2017 means the fifth season of Arrested Development is just around the corner. Arrested Development focuses on the Bluth family, containing a wide variety of colourful characters.

The sitcom’s cast features plenty of familiar names. These include Jason BatemanPortia de RossiWill Arnett and Michael Cera. The latter two will reunite on the big screen in February, 2017 in The LEGO Batman Movie.

Arrested Development has gained a cult following and has been called a great influence for other single-camera sitcoms.

Season four of the sitcom can be viewed now on Netflix.
