Following on from the release yesterday of some nice Potter family portraits, Pottermore has revealed the Granger-Weasley family. It is nice to hear that Hermione chose to hyphenate! Readers of course will be familiar with the discussion online regarding the casting of a non-white actress to play Hermione. The Arcade previously reporting on the casting of the Trio in December. JK Rowling of course rubbished the riddikullus claims of those few who spoke out, tweeting: “Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione.”

The lovely portraits reveal Ron in his typical knitted jumper, Hermione is some exquisite modern take on robes and Rose their daughter is in school robes that are unusually without house colours. As part of the article Pottermore quoted the actors playing the roles on their experiences thus far:

Paul Thornley on playing Ron:

‘It’s 19 years later when the play begins,’ Paul explained. ‘Ron is married to Hermione Granger and they’re now the Granger-Weasleys. Our magnificent daughter Rose Granger-Weasley is about to start at Hogwarts, which is obviously a big day for everyone.’

Cherrelle Skeete on playing Rose:

‘I can’t think about how big it is or I’ll just faint,’ Cherrelle said. ‘Putting on my uniform, ready to go to Hogwarts, and seeing everyone else in their uniform was exciting. I’ve been looking at it every day in the wardrobe department, waiting for the day I can get on the Hogwarts Express. Rose is ambitious, obviously her mum is Hermione so she’s got a lot to live up to. I think they’re quite similar in the fact they put a lot of pressure on themselves. And she just wants to do the right thing.’

Noma Dumezweni on playing Hermione:

‘Being in full costume for the first time was stunning, because I went, “Ahhh there you are”. Every time I’m in the auditorium I turn around to people or say to myself, “I’m in that show, I’m in that show.” I want to see it so much. I am so proud that I am in it.’

Performances, at least for the first of the two parts, are sold out through May 2017. Secondary-market tickets to the first preview are selling for as much as 4,000 pounds (nearly $5,800) according to The New York Times.

Expect to see some more portraits soon.
