Colin Furze, for anyone who doesn’t know, is an ex-plumber who lives in the UK and now makes his money by inventing things on YouTube.

These range from the ridiculous, such as a BMX with wheels made of ice, to the stupidly dangerous. The first video on this list of mine falls squarely into the second of those descriptions. Just before we get to it though, this list was created through a highly scientific method that guarantees these are the best Colin Furze inventions around. (Translation: I picked my favourite five).

5) The X-Men Inventions

Okay so I am cheating a little bit and putting three videos in here, but that’s only because these videos were made with the same theme and leaving two out didn’t feel right, but having them as separate entries wasn’t a possibility.

Furze made three builds inspired by the X-Men Wolverine, Magneto and Pyro. Wolverines are simple, they are pneumatic claws that extend and retract themselves. Magneto inspired a pair of shoes that allows the wearer to walk upside down along a metal ceiling. Finally Pyro led him to make a pair of gloves that can launch fire, see what I mean by dangerous? You can check out the three videos below.

4) The Xmas Spinner Turkey Cooker

Less dangerous than the previous entry trio, but this machine does what it says in the title. It cooks a turkey by spinning it really really fast, with a bit of boiling water sure. What makes this video one of my favourite videos is the inclusion of Jamie Oliver. The famed TV chef prepares a turkey using the Furze Turkey Spinner, which would certainly be a novelty that would get me to try a restaurant.

3) Flashing Smoking Bass And Flamethrower Guitar

Back to the quite dangerous, here we have a set of guitars. A bass guitar that has smoke funnels in it, along with a smoke machine built under the amp, and embedded strobe lights hidden under metal plates. On the other half of the set with have a guitar that shoots fire from the head. With a gas bottle stored at the top of the body and blowtorch heads at the end of the neck the only thing more ridiculous than the guitar is the fact he demos it in an underground bunker.

2) The Underground Bunker

Did that line ending in underground bunker raise an eyebrow? It probably should have but I can understand why this far through the list it might not. So this is what it sounds it, and it’s my second favourite video (or group of videos rather) just for the scale of it all. A Sky sponsored project that saw him dig a giant hole in his back garden, construct a bunker and then hide it all again. It’s the kind of thing you dream of when you’re nine, only he actually goes and does it. This video is the first of five parts of the process, because for this video seeing how it all comes together is just better than seeing only the end result.

1) The Jettle

As an avid tea and coffee drinker I boil my kettle many many times in one day, so what could I pick for my number one video other than the most impractical kettle that man has ever devised. A warning right now though, turn your volume way way down for this, or maybe just watch it on mute. The man stuck a homemade pulsejet engine into a kettle and uses it to boil water. The result is apparently slightly faster than a conventional kettle at the cost of an ear piercing whine the entire time.
