Gillian Anderson has signed on for a role in the first season of American Gods.
Yes, Scully herself will be playing Media, the goddess of television. She will be joining Ricky Whittle (Shadow), Emily Browining (Laura), and Ian McShane (Wednesday).
It’s always a nerve-racking experience for fans to see their beloved books adapted for the screen, but American Gods has been making announcements, such as author Neil Gaiman‘s heavy involvement, to on-location shoots, to casting choices that have been met with optimism by the fans.
For those unfamiliar with the novel, it tells the story of a man named Shadow, who is released from prison a few days early due to his wife’s death. It is then that he meets a man named Wednesday, who is one of the ‘old Gods.’ The ‘old Gods’ are struggling to survive as Americans lose faith in them, instead choosing to believe in the ‘new Gods’ – The Technical Boy, Media, and The Intangibles.
Mr. Wednesday recruits Shadow for the upcoming war between the Old Gods and the New Gods as they travel across America recruiting the others.
Hopes are high for the adaptation, which is headed for the network Starz, who also gave us Ash Vs. Evil Dead, which is due to hit our screens in 2017.
