The TV adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Paul Azaceta’s Outcast is near, with it’s premiere to air on Fox, on June 7.

Outcast tells the story of a man whose life is ruined upon encountering  demonic possession. Expectations for Outcast  have been high, with this project being in development even before the first issue was published and Cinemax already renewed the show for a second season. The hype also built after Fox recently streamed the pilot (directed by horror director Adam Wingard) live in 61 different countries.

Robert Kirkman gave an interview to Entertainment Weekly recently and in it he talked about this new show and its similarities and differences in comparison to The Walking Dead and it boils down to Outcast being a scarier show. He admits that both shows are similar when it comes to having unexpected things but their levels of threat are different, TWD’s threats are more physical and outward but Outcast’s are more inward.

He also notes the differences in settings and character development. While TWD goes all over the place, Outcast will mostly be set in the small town of Rome in West Virginia. And when it comes to the characters his view is that in TWD you just watch Rick Grimes being beaten down and then he adapts, and overcomes those obstacles but when Outcast begins Kyle Barnes (the protagonist) is already in a darker place than Rick Grimes has ever been.
