Deadpool‘s story of success has added another achievement, passing X-Men: Days of Future Past to become the highest-grossing movie in the X-Men franchise worldwide.
This weekend has pushed Deadpool to a total of $749 million, while Days of Future Past sits at $747.8 million. The film had already became the highest grossing X-Men related film in America a while ago, beating X-Men: The Last Stand.
The movie has, rather impressively, accomplished this while being banned in China, one of the largest potential box offices. It was also made on a very small budget compared to other movies in the genre. To compare it with a recent release, the Merc with a Mouth’s budget is estimated to be $58 million while Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice had a budget of $250 million, excluding any marketing costs.
Deadpool will release on DVD and Blu-Ray in May. The next X-Men instalment, X-Men: Apocalypse, releases May 27, 2016.
