The Five Starsteps recorded the moving and uplifting classic ‘O-o-h Child’ in 1970 and has been adored by musicians and music lovers ever since.
It’s been interpreted by many different artists over the decades. Nina Simone has covered it, 2pac sampled it and it has been featured prominently in movies such as Boyz N The Hood and Guardians of the Galaxy.
While I love the original, I like this version by Valerie Carter a little more. Its slower tempo and understated arrangement washes over you and feels like words of comfort more than encouragement. It brings a tear to your eye.
Luckily, the climax is enough to lift your spirits and make you smile. A must listen for anyone who wants things to be a little bit easier.
