‘Comes and Goes’ by Hyukoh is possibly one of my ultimate favourite songs ever. Regardless of my love for kpop, this song goes beyond that in my opinion. Filmed in a 90s movie style, the music video is quite casual and low key compared to other kpop videos. The group is casual and laidback as they act like garage playing bandmates having fun practicing for their first gig, which kinda just makes me love them and the song more. There is no exaggerated acting or anything unauthentic about these guys.
This indie rock song has a very real, maybe even dark, meaning. With their slightly awkward mix of English and Korean they bemoan the difficulties and worries that come with growing up. Growing up and becoming an adult has always been a scary eventuality and sometimes we just want to go back to those days when we were kids, when things were simpler and easier. The song creates an atmosphere nostalgic of this feeling. And, like us, the song ends with the acceptance of adulthood’s eventuality.
It is an amazing song, with incredible vocals that is a must-listen for anyone.
