I forgot how much I loved this song until I was sitting in a café yesterday, fully hipstering it up with a plaid shirt, a mocha and a sketchpad, and this song came on shuffle through Spotify. The only thing that could have made that scene more pretentious was post-rock, obviously! Snark aside, ‘In Amber’ is one of the most relaxing songs I’ve ever heard, with soft piano throughout the track that’s honestly so chilled that you’ll forget these guys are (supposedly) a rock band. And unlike a lot of ambient or chillout musicians, a full band they are, and that works so well in their favour. The use of real instruments gives them a much more organic sound that is honestly just a joy to listen to. The track has a really uplifting feeling to it too, with strings swelling in the background throughout.
‘In Amber’ is a perfect track to listen to while you’re drifting off to sleep, or while you’re zoned out on public transport at way too early o’clock, or if you’re like me and need music without vocals to get your head down and do your best work. Maybeshewill are sadly playing their final show in London in April this year, so before they go, give them one last hurrah and give ‘In Amber’ a spin.
