Hey Kpoppers! We know that a lot of you, like us, are interested in learning Korean! As lovers of Kpop, there are times when you want to completely understand what your idol is saying but relying on online translations is never super reliable, am I right? We’re no stranger to the words of our favourite songs and lets be honest, we KILL that pronunciation sometimes because 누가 제일 잘 나가? But sometimes we want to know more, hear more and speak more right?

So with this in mind we decided to do a monthly language learning app/website review for ya’ll so you can choose the means that suit you best. This months review; HelloTalk!

HelloTalk is a language exchange app wherein the user can connect with native speakers of the language they want to learn via messenger system similar to the popular Korean app Kakaotalk. It’s available for iPhone and Android systems. This app is dedicated to language learning and it is in no way meant for dating purposes. This is made obvious with the sign-up terms&conditions and the usage instructions.

This app provides various options to help in the language exchange options such as ‘translate’, where you can actually see the sentence and its translation underneath. There’s also the option to see the romanization, which is good for those pronunciation problems. This app has a number of different features, basically identical to any other messaging app out there, it just has clear marketing towards language learning. So don’t worry about finding it difficult to use because I think its safe to say we’re all pros at the likes of Whatsapp or Kakao by now.

How do you find someone to exchange badly written Korean greetings with? Easy, it gives you the option of finding someone within your location. You can talk with people in your area that have the same language skills, goals, whatever! It also offers the ‘best match’ option so you can also converse with people living in different countries that have the same language option. I found this option to be the best as I was able to be in contact with more people and have found an amazing language partner from it! Seriously, the number of stupid questions I’ve asked that have all been answered, with graciously concealed humour, is enormous.

Don’t feel like logging into a website or joining a class in person or online? Then this app is for you Kpoppers!
