Look alive, sunshine! Today’s pick for Track of the Day is coming at you from the guys in My Chemical Romance, stuffed full of slaughtermatic sounds to keep you alive.

Not content with 2006’s goth-tinged high-concept rock opera, The Black Parade, Gerard Way and co. decided to completely reinvent themselves for 2010’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. Shifting from their desaturated videos and monochromatic marching band outfits, My Chemical Romance became a riot of colour, camp and sonic variation. Danger Days depicted the band as outlaws fighting against the forces of Better Living Industries, run by comics legend Grant Morrisson and decked out with some fabulous lace cuffs.

Everything about this song is cheesy perfection, including but not limited to ‘Doctor Death Defying’ and his over-the-top intro to the song. The music video is full of exciting elements: Grant Morrisson‘s ridiculous character, the comic-book outfits worn by the Killjoys, their rad as all hell car, Gerard Way‘s sermon-like bridge, the fact they’re shooting zombie henchmen with Nintendo Blasters and hacking vending machines with a Game Boy Advance, and the chorus is comprised of playground-level chanting that will refuse to leave your head. It’s just so damn fun, and I defy you to not tap your foot along or hum the chorus while you listen.

Killjoys, make some noise!
