Star Wars Episode VIII Could Have A Rewrite In Progress Due To Fan Reaction

With the recent news that Star Wars Episode VIII has been delayed from summer 2017 to December 2017, an explanation for the delay may have just come from Jeff Sneider of The Wrap on Meet The Movie Press. Apparently the director for Episode VIII, Rian Johnson, is going to rewrite the script a bit due to fan reaction to The Force Awakens.

The discussion occurs around the 23 minute mark. To summarize it, though, Johnson is apparently rewriting the script to minimize the two new so far un-cast female characters that are to appear in the movie. The reason for this is a push to further flesh out the roles of Rey, Finn and Poe instead of focusing on other characters.

I’m a little divided on the idea; as much as I enjoy the main cast and look forward to seeing more of their stories. I also feel like Captain Plasma was the most disappointing part of The Force Awakens and if they are going to reduce roles to bit parts I question if they are needed at all.

Let us know how you feel about the possible changes below.

  1. To be fair, captain Phasma is comparable to Boba Fett: awesome armour, minimal role, doesn’t really do anything, but still looks awesome and is some people’s favourite character despite the tiny role.

    1. Oh yeah, I get that they tried to do another Boba with Phasma but I just don’t really feel it worked. Maybe it’s because we see Boba succeed with something when he gets away with the frozen Solo. Whereas all we see of Phasma is her talking to Finn, and then getting grabbed by Chewie. I liked the potential of the character, I just wish they had done more with her.
