Tech Insider Argues the Ewoks Would Have Died After Death Star Destruction

A recent study by the Tech Insider suggests that the Yub Nub party at the end of Return of the Jedi may have been just a tiny bit more apocalyptic. Using complex equations, Purdue University planetary scientist, Dave Minton, calculated the mass of both Endor and the Second Death Star, further remarking upon the rather tame explosion of the space station compared to its predecessor.

He remarked that the Ewoks had no chance of survival. “No Ewok could withstand an impact of that magnitude… It is likely that the atmosphere would be so heated up… that every body of water on the entire world would be flash heated to steam, and every forest would ignite into a global firestorm.” This theory is hardly new, however, and is popularly known by Star Wars fans as the Endor Holocaust.

Star Wars Tales Volume 4 once featured Apocalypse Endor, a story in which a retired stormtrooper expresses his traumatic experience serving in the Endor Garisson. He concludes with satisfaction that he takes solace in the likelihood of Endor’s destruction, only to be told that any debris resulting from the explosion was intercepted and destroyed by Rebel Fighters.

Paul and Hollace DavidsGlove of Vader proposes that damage to the Death Star’s hyperdrive regulator resulted in the debris being scattered through space via wormhole. However, both of these sources have likely been retconned to make way for the new trilogy. Maybe Episode VIII or IX may give a final answer regarding Endor’s fate.

  1. Am I the only one imagining the Ewoks running around on fire? That would have made ROTJ 10x better
