The solicitations for DC for March 2016 reveal another status quo change for their two biggest characters as both Batman and Superman will be returning to familiar territory in issue 50.
Batman will be returning to Bruce Wayne, with the current storyline having Commissioner Gordon dawn the mantle of the caped crusader for a story involving a new villain created by current creative team Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. The story, titled ‘Superheavy’, has been something of a refresh for the series, allowing the team to cover new territory for the dark knight post-‘Endgame’, one of the biggest stories from the team in their run. But now Bruce will return to the cowl for a new beginning post-issue 50.
The official solicitation reads:
Batman has returned to Gotham City! In this extra-sized conclusion to Snyder and Capullo’s epic story ‘Superheavy,’ Bruce Wayne returns to the cape and cowl to battle Mr. Bloom alongside Jim Gordon for the fate of the city they both love.
Superman will be getting his classic costume back. Clark had switched to a more everyman look after being outed as Superman and losing most of his powers. The next storyline, which is expected to see him encounter his pre-New 52 counter-part, will have the cape and blue suit, but it’s unknown whether they will continue with his lessened powers or if he’ll be fully restored as the man of steel.
The official solicitation reads:
Superman returns in all his glory in this very special issue that sees the Man of Steel back to full power as he faces his greatest enemy and also comes face to face with the pre-Flashpoint Kal-El! At last, it’s the meeting of the Supermen you’ve been waiting for!
