The actors that will play the grown up versions of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley have been chosen for Harry Potter And The Curesed Child – the upcoming stage-play which has been written under JK Rowling’s guidance and is the canonical continuation of the Harry Potter series, set two decades after the books ended.

The play will be broken up into two parts due to the epic nature of the story. Audience members will have an option then to see both parts during the matinee and the evening performance on either the same day or separate nights.

Jamie Parker will play The Boy Who Lived, having previously worked on stage in The History Boys, High Society and As You Like It.

Paul Thornley will play Ron and has appeared on stage and on screen appearing alongside Tom Hardy in London Road.

Noma Dumezweni will play Hermione. Doctor Who Fans will recognise this Olivier Award Winning actress from her time as Captain Erisa Magambo on the BBC show.

Obviously, the casting of a black woman as a character cast as white in other adaptations of the books has dominated discussion, but it must be said that Hermione’s race is never specified in the books. She grew up and has lived in Britain all her life but aside from that, information on her skin color or heritage is never discussed outside of her being a magical child born to a muggle family. The casting of Dumezweni does perhaps hint that the play will tackle some of the racial themes in Harry Potter a bit more head-on, but that’s just speculation. She’s likely just the best actor for the role and we can’t to see what she adds to the character!

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child opens in London in July 2016, you can check out the official website for more performance information!
