All Hallow’s Eve is on us and now is the time to get your scariest face on and scare the youngsters roaming about. Some people have prepared all year, while others are having to come up with a last minute costume solution. Either case, just a bit of face paint can go a long way. Today we’re showing you how to get creative with your eyes. This is perfect for if you don’t have some wild contact lenses but still want to do something fun.

Miss Spider

James and the Giant Peach is a beloved movie from our childhoods and I have always been fascinated by Miss Spider. Her outfit is fairly easy to put together: some black & white striped clothing, a green beret and scarf, and you’re good to go! But what about the eyes?! Fear not: by painting her eyes on your eyelids, you can give the illusion of having four eyes when you close them. It can be done with normal eyeshadow and eyeliner, or some water-activated facepaint. If you have oily eyelids, be sure to prime them first so they don’t smudge half way through the night!

The Stalk

If you haven’t yet read Saga, I’ll start off by recommending you go and do that now. The Stalk is not only one of the best mercenaries around, she’s also visually stunning. The character design for her is truly unique and eye-catching, and you can always take the idea of the four pairs of eyes and incorporate it into your own monster costume. The eyes were all done using facepaint, then I went in with a dark grey shadow and shaded the eyes, and around the new eyelids I drew on. Don’t forget to add in the little white highlights in the eyes, that really helps with the illusion.

Now this may be a bit risqué for a costume, but a skin coloured bodysuit can do the trick and keep you warm. Alternatively, if you’d rather do bodypainting instead, you have a few options. You can use water activated paints or, if you are very pale already, you can do as I did and use a clown white grease makeup diluted in body lotion or coconut oil. That will pale you down further, without the hassles of bodypainting. Don’t be afraid to do body contouring to bring out your muscles and features. Here I used a matte grey-brown eyeshadow and contoured my bones and chest area.
