Chris Miller, the co-writer and director of The Lego Movie recently released a tweet stating that the first draft of the sequel has been turned in. The sequel will see the return of Miller and Phil Lord as the writers but will see them surrendering the director’s chair to Rob Schrab (Community, Parks and Recreation, Sarah Silverman Program) in his feature directorial debut.

The film will likely see the return of Chris Pratt as protagonist Emmet, as plot points hinted at by Miller and Lord include the introduction of Emmet’s sister. Further plot details are scarce but Miller and Lord earlier claimed the film would be set four years after the first installment in a dystopian future. Whether this is a result of Lord Business back to his old tricks or a brand new villain remains to be seen.
The film is slated for a May 2018 release.
