Stephanie Meyer Releases Gender-Bend Twilight

Believe it or not, it’s been 10 whole years since Edward and Bella first sparkled their way into our lives. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of her worldwide phenomenon Twilight, author Stephanie Meyer dropped quite the surprise when she appeared on Good Morning America this week. She has completely rewritten her incredibly successful first instalment with a new twist: Edward is now Edythe, Bella is Beau and Jacob is Jules.

In Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, the genders of the main three characters have been swapped but the overall story has remained the same. When first released and in the decade since, the Twilight saga has been criticised as being anti-feminist and accused of presenting a romanticised version of an unhealthy relationship. Now that the love-birds have switched gender-identities, Meyer is curious to find out if the change makes people view her protagonist in a different light.

“I wonder if it will change how people look at Bella a little bit, to see her as him,” she told GMA.

We’re pretty curious ourselves!

Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined is available now.
