Nintendo Announce First Smartphone Game Miitomo
Nintendo has revealed their first foray into the smartphone market with their collaboration with DeNA. The project is named Miitomo and will be the first of five titles due by March 2017. The game was announced at a Q&A at an investor and analyst meeting held on Tuesday.
According to The Wall Street Journal translation, the game “will be free to play, with attractive add-ons that people can pay for” while other smartphone games “will be pay-to-download” according to Nintendo president, Tatsumi Kimishima.
Miitomo allows players to create Miis and share them with their friends over smartphones. The service was created for those who are hesitant about sharing personal details online, so the game will act as “friendly conversation starters” for people to gain “deepening friendships”.
The Miitomo characters will communicate with each other automatically, as the Miis will ask questions which the user can answer. The Miis will only work with those who you are friends with. With a pretty similar style to Tomodachi Life, without the quirky interactions, really this seems like more of a simple messaging service.
