Music Monday: Love Live!

Love Live! has not, I am aware, become very popular in Europe. It is, however, the biggest thing Japan has had to deal with since The Beatles and even now, months after the film has left theaters and almost a year after season 2 finished airing, it’s still bloody everywhere. In that spirit, here’s some if its finest musical cuts to brighten up your dreary Monday, because god knows you need it.

Sore Wa Bokutachi No Kiseki

Season 2’s opening is one of the catchiest pieces of idol-music I’ve ever heard and, complete with some strangely not-completely-out-of-place guitar shredding, this track is a guaranteed good day maker.

Snow Halation

Everytime I think I’ve found my favourite Love Live! track, another sweeps in to take its place. At the moment, it’s ‘Snow Halation’. But who knows what it could be by this time tomorrow. Or even the next ten minutes.

Angelic Angel

One of two tracks taken from this years Love Live! movie, ‘Angelic Angel’ is a little less J-poppy than the other stuff, and has the slickest bassline I’ve ever heard in a track by nine fictional Japanese women.

Darling!

A solo number for fan-favourite Maki, ‘Darling!’ might contain some pretty cringy English, but it’s also got some slick grooves and four-on-the-floor production.

Sunny Day Song

Another track from the Love Live! movie, and another track to add to the already painful, potentially involuntary and unwelcome, smile on your face.

Start: Dash

The first official track from the girls, it would be a crime not to include it.

Bokura Wa Ima No Naka De

And we close out with the first piece of music Love Live! ever gave us. Who could have known upon listening to this, season 1’s opening, that millions would soon become slaves to their affection for both this music and the characters performing it? Me. That’s who. Enjoy your nascent addiction.
