Frank Miller’s First The Dark Knight 3 Minicomic Cover Revealed

Frank Miller is no stranger to controversy. Despite his work with Daredevil: The Man Without Fear, The Dark Knight Returns and Sin City, Miller has been responsible for some far more notably troubling works. 300 has been widely criticized for its alleged homophobia and racism, not to mention Holy Terror, which to call a spade a spade is propaganda for US imperialism. More and more his work has been made notable for its morally reductive stance on superheroes, featuring most memorably a violent, totalitarian Batman who approves of lethal force and open warfare in pursuit of justice. However, his most recent cover as part of The Dark Knight III: Master Race has made waves for a rather conspicuous bulge in the Man of Steel’s undies.

Strange, considering the cover is for an Atom comic. Is this cover offensive? Not really, but it’s rather emblematic of Frank Miller‘s oeuvre. In your face, gritty, hyper-masculine, lacking any subtlety and may be taken as an omen of what is to come in Master Race.

Every issue TDKIII will include a minicomic, this being the first one, that expands the universe and focuses on heroes outside of just Batman and Superman.
