UPDATE: Saban have since tweeted and confirmed to Comicbook.com that the team in the new Power Rangers film will be the one from the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV show. This news came with the announcement of Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger.

According to a report from Collider, further details into the new Power Rangers movie have been revealed. The official title for the movie will be Saban’s Power Rangers with Saban being the co-creator, Haim Saban.
It has been reported that the script is currently being tweaked with the names of the power rangers in the film as follows:
- Dacre Montgomery as Callum Oliver – The Red Ranger/Tyrannosaurus
- Naomi Scott as Priya Patel – The Pink Ranger/Pterodactyl
- RJ Cyler as Brian Olson – The Blue Ranger/Triceratops
- Ludi Lin as Oscar Fernandez – The Black Ranger/Mastodon
- It is yet unknown who will be playing Teyana Jones – The Yellow Ranger/Sabre-tooth Tiger
It looks like the use of the new names may mean that this Power Rangers movie won’t be a reboot of the original team but instead have an all new set of teenagers. With a name like Callum Oliver, however, could we see some connection to the original Green/White ranger, Tommy Oliver?
The budget is reported to be $35 million which is quite low in terms of blockbuster movie budgets.
Saban’s Power Rangers will be in cinemas on January 13, 2017.
