Virtual Reality has officially hit the mainstream as The Sleepy Hollow Virtual Reality Experience has won an Emmy in the ‘Interactive Media, User Experience and Visual Design’ category.

This is a milestone in the media industry as, essentially, an Emmy is the Oscars for TV and it has really put Virtual Reality out as a mainstream entertainment medium.

Co-produced by Fox and Toronto-based Secret Location, it debuted at Comic-Con. This experience gave thousands of Oculus Rift users a unique gift of seeing what it would be like to have their heads cut off and held by the Headless Horseman.

This was not the only virtual reality success at the awards as the AMEX Unstaged: Taylor Swift Experience received a nod for Outstanding Original Interactive Program. The experience allows fans to follow Swift around (in a non-stalker way) using their smartphone.
