Mary Poppins (1964) is a classic. To go near it is dangerous. Back in 2013, film makers emerged triumphant and unscathed when Saving Mr. Banks was met with an all together positive reception. Rumours are in near constant circulation – for which writers (like this one!) can be caught out. However, Entertainment Weekly reports that: “Disney is developing a new original live-action musical film featuring the beloved magical nanny”.

Rob Marshall will direct and the screenplay will be written by David Magee, who wrote Finding Neverland (2004) and Life of Pi (2012). Taking care of the new songs will be written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who co-wrote the music of Hairspray (2007).

The cast is as yet unknown, but the story will be set in London during the Depression, 20 years on from when the original film ended.

What do you make of the original Mary Poppins? How can the follow-up avoid slip ups? Can you do in impersonation of Dick Van Dyke‘s English cockney accent? Tell us in the comments!
