Gail Simone and Jim Calafiore’s Leaving Megalopolis was a fresh and terrifying take on the superhero genre. The book was bound to be popular after reaching more than triple its goal in a massively successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012. The story was so popular, it went on to be published last year by Dark Horse Comics who have just announced that they’ll be releasing a sequel miniseries, Surviving Megalopolis, in 2016.

A brief set-up for the story is as follows: “Megalopolis was once the safest city in the world. Caped heroes were everywhere, fighting crime and saving the day, but it all went horrifically wrong when every single superhero suddenly became evil. Full on, murderous, lazer-eyes evil. The first story was about a group of survivors trying desperately to escape the ruins of the city but unfortunately for those who did (and fortunately for us) it looks like they’re going back!”

When asked what we can expect from the new series, writer Gail Simone told CBR, “This is like someone threw up in a kaleidoscope. A very colourful, violent kaleidoscope.” To which artist Jim Calafiore simply added, “Nasty, Nasty, Nasty.”

Surviving Megalopolis will hit shelves January 2016.
