Rumoured for years, tied to David Fincher and McG, the 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea adaptation has finally gotten its sea legs. Director Bryan Singer has made it known that he is spear-heading an adaptation of the legendary novel once X-Men: Apocalypse is finished.

Using his instagram account to reveal the news, Singer says the script is officially finished.

The story is co-written by Singer with Rick Sordelet and Dan Studney, with a screenplay by Sordelet and Studney. Singer promises this will be “an epic and emotional adventure for all ages”.

The novel was written by Jules Verne and published in 1869 and follows the adventure of Captain Nemo and his ship the Nautilus as he explores the oceans in rebellion against society. A sci-fi benchmark, the story has been adapted for screen before by Disney and is one of the most influential stories in the genre.
