Well, it’s that time of year again, back to school season. It may seem monotonous and boring but some of the best stories happen at school! This week I thought we’d have a look at some great comic book schools. Hopefully they’ll ease the pain of going back, make you nostalgic for your school days or maybe just make your experience look like a picnic by comparison!

Gotham Academy

Gotham Academy is Gotham’s most prestigious prep school and it’s just as spooky as you would expect. Ghosts, werewolves and escaped villains lurk around every corner and crawl within every wall. There are secrets well and truly hidden in every nook and cranny of this beautiful, gothic school.

The students of Gotham Academy are a wonderful group of eccentric, endlessly interesting characters. Balancing homework with hard-hitting investigative work isn’t easy but Olive and Maps make it seem pretty fun, if a little scary. There’s always an adventure to go on or a mystery to solve. The teachers may be a little off and that Bruce Wayne guy might be hanging around a little too much but Gotham Academy is a school I wouldn’t mind exploring!

Morning Glories

detentionreactionGoing back to school might seem like a nightmare but it could definitely be worse, you could be a student at the prestigious Morning Glory Academy. It may seem like your average school at first but give it an hour or two and you’re sure to find yourself in the first of many terrifying, life-threatening situations. We’re talking evil teachers, mysterious dungeons and a creepy ghostly guy who may or may not murder you. Other extra special features include a complete inability to leave and possibly a little time-travel.

Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma have created a school where anything could happen, except maybe what you would actually like to happen. It’s ruthless and over-flowing with secrets. Who is the principal and why does he apparently hate kids? Why do all of the new students have the same birthday? Will we ever get answers?!

When it comes to Morning Glories, you might not pass the exam but you’ll have one hell of a story if you can survive until graduation.

Giant Days

For a lot of you, back to school might mean starting or returning to college, just like the girls of Giant Days. Esther, Daisy and Susan are first year university students who instantly formed a tight friendship when they became dorm-neighbours. Giant Days is a slice-of-life comic about college life and all of the shenanigans it comes with. Esther, Daisy and Susan find themselves in the middle of crazy situations that will make your most embarrassing college experiences seem a little less dramatic.

It’s fun, relatable and portrays college as a place where you can meet great people, explore your identity, make a fool of yourself and bounce right back to try again tomorrow.

Could you survive any of these schools? What are some of your favourite comic book schools? Let us know in the comments!
