Earlier this year, Phil Spencer announced that the Xbox One was introducing a backwards compatibility feature before the end of the year. The way to make this work was to rebuild the hardware architecture by creating a virtual Xbox 360 that runs on the Xbox One. This was immediately rolled out to the Xbox One Preview Program and there has been a lot of testing as a result.

At Gamescom this week it was confirmed that all Xbox One owners will gain access to this feature in November.

Along with this release there will be hundreds of games you can play from the older console, with the most popular being all the Gears of War games. This will be released along the Windows 10 integration that will come online which means you should be able to stream games from the Xbox One to your Windows 10 PC and that will include the backwards compatibility mode.

There is a catch, however. The backwards compatibility does not mean that you will be able to play Xbox 360 titles on the Xbox One and any games that rely on USB or Kinect will not work.

The important thing now is that Xbox One really looks into carving a uniqueness against the competition and backwards compatibility is a great step in that direction.
