Ah, the Sith! Those rambunctious intergalactic rapscallions we first fell in hate with all those years ago when we realised that pretty much all of them list ‘kicking puppies’ in their top 5 hobbies. Say what you like about them, whether they be evil or just badass enough to be likeable. However, do not say that Kylo Ren, the iconic villain from the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is among their ranks.

In a recent interview with Empire, the film’s director, J.J. Abrams, confirmed that, “Kylo Ren is not a Sith, he works under Supreme Leader Snoke, who is a powerful figure on the Dark Side of the Force.” This would of course explain why Kylo’s title is not Darth as with previous villains to the series.

In follow up to explaining about Ren and his origins, Abrams also gave some more background info on the state of the galaxy leading up to The Force Awakens and explained that the First Order, the main antagonist group of the film, “came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again?” Furthermore, he asked, “What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn’t get done?”

Well, we’re firmly seated on this hype train! We just need to peck a few more little nuggets of info out before December and, who knows, maybe we won’t die of fangirl/boy overload! Be sure to let us know what you think about Ren and The First Order in the comments below!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will embrace the dark side of cinemas on December 18, 2015.
