Who here loves cosplay!? Well then I have just the treat in store for you. Recently I interviewed the gorgeous and talented Giulio Nardozzi. For those who may not know who this guy is, he is a ridiculously talented cosplayer from Italy (can it get any better?). I caught up with Giulio to talk cosplay and get to know him and the cosplay world a little better.

Shane: What started you on your path to cosplay?

neo_dante_dmc_by_gnefilim-d81qamnGiulio: About three years ago, a very dear friend of mine brought me to a comic fair. There I saw countless people dressed as their favourite characters. The atmosphere and the combination of colours brought me to another dimension, it was unique and peaceful. I fell in love immediately with this planet and the day after I began my first costume.

What is your favourite personal cosplay?

At the moment, my favourite cosplay is Dante from DMC. I love him because he is bad ass and he has a very cool personality. A lot of times I like to mirror myself in him.

Have you any cosplay tips for other cosplayers and people starting cosplay?

Obviously I’d like to give a piece of advice from my heart to all the people who are starting or have recently started their cosplay adventure. First thing is cosplay = FUN, this is the only rule that must be followed. Regarding the making of costumes, I advise you to find lots of photos from different angles, make a draft of the character and of his/her weapons on a piece of paper, analyze EVERY LITTLE DETAIL (the more attentive to the smallest details, the more accurate the cosplay will be and it will receive positive critique) and more important still, choose appropriate materials. The choice of material is fundamental to differentiate yourself from others. Make your character unique with a personal touch. Finally, study his/her moves, who wouldn’t love a Joker who goes around cons pretending to be a psychopath?

So you teased the Joker as your next cosplay. How are you planning to pull it off?

I’ll do the Joker using the advice I previously listed.

What cosplayers do you admire?

The cosplayers I most admire are Italian and friends of mine. Leon Chiro has an extreme strength of will and is able to impersonate perfectly every single character he plays, plus I adore his ‘personal touch’ which differentiates him from others. For him, cosplay is an art, and you can see that! He is an amazing cosplayer. I also like Veronica Ceccherini, a girl who works in the ‘Room of the Spirit of Time’. Why? Because she can create beautiful armour and outfits daily. She too is like the others; very attentive to detail with her choice of materials. Sooner or later I’ll find out her secret! She really is fantastic!

Andrea Starchild Di Virgilio is another favourite of mine. He is very good with clay sculptures and with the creation of helmets, as well as armour. He always tries to exceed himself. He also has a great personality. Another person worth mentioning is Francesco Sanseverino; every sculpture of his, mask or make-up represents perfection. No flaws. His works stumble between reality and fantasy because they all look real! Probably the best I’ve ever seen in this field. Then there are Luca Buzzi and Giancarlo Di Pierro, Andrea Vesnaver and Massimo Barbera who represented Italy in a sublime way at WCS (World Cosplay Summit).

What is your opinion on cosplaying as a male in a female dominated hobby?

Cosplay has no sex, it’s a fantastic art which displays millions of costumes and colours of every kind, no one is excluded. It’s been a real pleasure to do this interview; thank you.

Feel free to check Giulio out online for some excellent cosplays and, of course, give him a like on Facebook as well!
