Last year saw the return of large fantasy RPGs with Pillars of Eternity and Divinity: Original Sin both bringing focus on a forgotten type of RPG. Both titles were made through the help of Kickstarter, and now it seems that developer, Larian Studios, are trying their hand again at crowd funding, with the announcement of Divinity: Original Sin II.
The Kickstarter is planned to launch on August 26, with a series of backer rewards currently available for voting for the campaign. The first Divinity: Original Sin was hugely successful, gaining just under 1 million from its Kickstarter campaign. The game was beloved by critics and fans of the genre alike, so it’s safe to say that Larian has proved themselves and the sequel will no doubt continue the quality and polish the first game had.
Whether the campaign will meet its funding is another question entirely, as Kickstarted games have not exactly had the best image as of late. With the troubled Red Ash project and the confused Shenmue 3 campaign, fans may want to hold off on pledging money for a while.
