With the sequel to Zoolander now confirmed and with it a fancy new (and surprisingly good) trailer, we’re now confident that 2oolander, as it’s been officially dubbed, will be a success much like Anchorman 2. However, we have our doubts whether or not the upcoming film will be able to match the classic and iconic moments of the first one, which achieved cult status despite fairly average reviews.
After re-watching Zoolander for (what feels like) the hundredth time, we realised that the wisdom of fashion’s most vapid stars could help and explain the struggles of us mere mortals. Identity crisis
Whether it’s halfway through a college degree that suddenly seems totally worthless, or during your lunch break at a job that’s slowly sucking your soul out through your nostrils, we’ve all had an identity crisis, mini or otherwise, over the course of our lives. You may find yourself weeping away in front of your mirror while listening to Taylor Swift on a loop, or dying your hair a bright colour in the hopes that a bright pink ‘do will sort your life out for you. We feel you!
Explaining technology to parents
That infuriating look of pure confusion that spreads across your mammy’s face while you try to explain the merits of clicking ‘New tab’ is a moment few millennials easily forget. Even if you write it down, you’re still going to come home for the weekend and they’ll be petering away on their desktop computer opening window after window until your brain explodes.
Fighting with your partner
We’ve all had huge; wall shaking fights with our significant others where shit just completely hits the fan and all thoughts of saving feelings just goes out the window. The gloves come off and suddenly you’re facing down the stone cold evil behind your loved one’s wide, crazy eyes.
Being given a bad cup of tea
Whether it’s a mug of what may as well be milk warmed up, or a cup of Earl Grey instead of golden blend, some people need to stay as far away from a kettle as possible. Tea making is an art, and when we ask for a strong cup with two sugars, that’s what we want, dammit!
Getting a compliment when you’re looking fly
Whether you’re in the club or just running out to get a few groceries at the corner shop, being complimented by someone you’ve bumped into is a great way to add some cheer to your day. Particularly if you’re as vain as Derek Zoolander and didn’t need to be told.
Dealing with the computer from hell
Some of us just don’t have much luck with technology, but it’s hardly our fault! Manufacturers want the machines to break so you have to keep spending money. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it!
Driving
You may have just gotten your licence, or your friend is halfway through their lessons, but there comes a time in every Irish youngster’s life where they are introduced to the freedom that having a car offers. Whether you’re on patrol around your estate scoping out hotties or on your first road trip to the beach, you’ll be rocking out to whatever is on the radio and feeling like a total rockstar.
Social smoking
You’re the bane of your smoker friends’ existence when you ask if you can have the butt of their fag, or worse, your very own full cigarette. This irritating version of you is generally fuelled by copious amounts of alcohol so the next day, when you’re nursing your well-deserved hangover, you may be coughing away and unable to figure out way. Was it the chill in the air? Should you have brought a sweater like mammy suggested? Nope. Just quit the puff-puff-puffing next time and you’ll be fine.
