Warner Brothers have reached out to Irish director John Butler for the remake rights to his 2014 film, The Stag. This news opens up a potential new avenue for Irish directors to transition their properties easier to big American studios. Recently, Butler was pressed for an interview about the deal by TheJournal.ie:
“I think it’s the first Irish Film Board funded film, and maybe the first Irish film full-stop, to be acquired for remake by an American studio, so it’s new ground”
The movie which starred Amy Huberman, Brian Gleeson and Andrew Scott of Sherlock fame, was titled The Bachelor Weekend in the States. This was a name that came about due to the cultural differences between the definition of the term ‘stag’.  As of now, there is no word on who will be cast for the production, but we will be keeping a close eye on this landmark event for Irish-funded films.
