A few days ago this incredible video popped up online, reminding us all of our dreams of running around as Jedi. Rob McLellan has had those very dreams it seems. But the director (whose robot horror short is becoming a feature film under MGM) has been working on something truly incredible that fans of that Galaxy Far Far Away have longed for: a Star Wars virtual reality game.

From everything we’ve been shown, it’s exactly what fans would want from a Star Wars VR game. From blasting across Hoth in a snowspeeder to diving through the trenches of the Death Star, we couldn’t be more excited! If there’s a better use for the Oculus Rift than getting to bullseye womp rats then we don’t want it.

It’s worth noting that this is the work of devoted fans, with no backing from Lucasfilm or Disney. Star Wars VR is a beautiful looking labour of love. It was built entirely on the Unreal Engine 4 and created by a small team with the help of Hammerhead VR studios, and the developers are hopeful to have a playable demo available to players by the time the Oculus Rift releases next year.

What do you think? Would you play this? Let us know in the comments!
