A Life Of Colour: A Tribute To The Work Of Satoru Iwata

When I heard the news that Satoru Iwata had passed away, I just wanted to binge-play my Wii U games, but all my consoles are securely packed up inside a cardboard box ready to move home as I type. Not being able to indulge in hours upon hours of mourning gameplay (if that’s even a thing?), I decided to do what I do best: paint my face.
Now you may be thinking “Well, I get that he was the CEO and all… but what part did he really have in any of our beloved games?” Let’s just say Nintendo gaming as we know it today is all thanks to him and the effort, talent and he energy he shared in his lifetime. When Nintendo wasn’t doing so well sales-wise, he aimed towards innovating their consoles so they could appeal to more players. He pushed the development of the DS, which brought with it an entirely new form of playing, and the Wii, which introduced motion control-based video games. He also worked on The Legend of Zelda, Mario, and the Animal Crossing series. So to sum it up: he was awesome and as a gaming community we owe him a lot.
I chose to do a Princess Peach inspired eye and a Yoshi Egg lip. I think mostly because the Super Mario series was the one I played the most as a child, and now on the latest Nintendo consoles, Mario Kart 8 is my favourite title.
As small as my tribute may be, I just felt it needed to be done, and all I can say is, “Thank you, Mr. Iwata. You will be missed.”
