According to Nintendo, Splatoon, their squid-based game for the Wii U, has reached 1 million sales worldwide. These figures include more than 230,000 physical and digital units sold in Europe, with more than 368,000 sold in Japan and upwards of 476,000 in the Americas along with 20,000 in Australia.
Nintendo of Europe president, Satoru Shibata, was very pleased with the milestone. “Since Splatoon launched on 29th May, it has been great to see so many players competing in online matches”, he said. “We are pleased this new Wii U exclusive game is capturing the imagination of so many fans across Europe, and look forward to bringing more exclusive titles to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this year.”
Splatoon sets teams made up of four players against each other while they try and ‘splatter’ most of the playing area with their team’s coloured ink. Players can transform into squids and swim in pools of ink to move faster.
