With Ireland’s recent push for LGBT rights and a marriage referendum passed, it somehow makes us even more excited when we see little wins for equality elsewhere as well.
Nintendo is set to release its first ever game featuring same sex marriage. According to Eurogamer, role-playing game Fire Emblem Fates will give players the choice to marry both same and opposite sex characters! This isn’t something that’s planned for the future, it’s actually going to hit our shelves as soon as next year.
A Nintendo spokesperson said, “We can confirm that Fire Emblem Fates for Nintendo 3DS which is coming to the US and Europe in 2016 includes the possibility for a same-sex marriage to take place between the main character created by the gamer and another character in the game.”
The spokesperson went on to explain that Nintendo wanted their games to reflect the diversity of their communities, which is a great step for a company that failed to do so in last year’s Tomodachi Life.
