Eddie Redmayne Cast As Newt Scamander In Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them
It has been confirmed! Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Speculation has been rife since last month. It’s not surprising as the movie is set to be a spin-off of one of the most successful franchises of all time.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them started life as a text book in the Harry Potter books. In 2001, author J.K. Rowling was approached by Comic Relief to write and release it and the similar (dare I say, unfortunately?) fictitious volume Quidditch Through the Ages to raise money for charity. According to Ellie Hall of BuzzFeed, the books have raised £17 million ($27 million) for Comic Relief overall.
The fictitious author of the fictitious volume is Newt Scamander, an authority on the magical creatures that plague, populate and prettify the Potter-verse. According to Entertainment Weekly, director David Yates has praised the prospective protagonist by saying , “Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity.”
It’s fair to say we are all hoping that this project does not go the way of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit Trilogy and, even with an Oscar Winner in the cast, it’s not clear how it will turn out.
