Mad Max: Fury Road has been constantly on my mind since watching it for the first time and again about 25 hours later. Everything about the movie made me happy; it is my ideal apocalyptic world, in a way. It reminded me of the first time I saw the music video for ‘California Love’ by Tupac and fell in love with the style.
Everything about the costumes spoke to me; I have bought so many outfits in the past thinking, ‘This is nice and airy… I could layer it to wear in a desert somewhere!’ But, really, when’s the next time I’ll be in a desert? I’m here to tell you that if it looks fantastic and makes you feel like you have more attitude than Furiosa, wear it.
So this week’s outfits are heavily inspired by Imperator Furiosa and Immortan Joe. Even the titles are badass. This movie was glorious and the possible outfits that could be inspired by it are even better.

Immortan Joe
I loved absolutely everything about his look in the movie. From the hoarse breathing apparatus to the cod piece. The overall look worked with everything else. It also shows the drastic difference between him and the War Boys.

I went for khaki coloured chinos because, after all, we do want this to be a wearable look. Once I had decided on the bottoms, however, everything else got a little difficult. I couldn’t find any PVC military jackets so I opted for a white shirt to go with the paint Immortan Joe wore on his body. I chose an orange infinity scarf to symbolise his respirator contraption. I would have added a few medals to the breast pocket of the shirt if I had any, but that’s something you can look into if it tickles your fancy. Of course, I had to add a studded belt in there for good measure.
The outfit looks thrown together in a way which suits the whole look over all. I can see myself updating it down the line once we come into the hotter summer months. The boots were are my favourite part. If you are going to survive in that sort of scenario (aka death chase across an apocalyptic landscape), practical shoes are a must; sturdy enough that if something tried to bite your foot, you have a decent amount of protection. Plus something that looks a little more badass than canvas shoes (sorry to all the Converse fans out there!). To add a little something to it, you could throw in a mouth mask, although chances are you won’t be allowed anywhere fancy.
Imperator Furiosa
First of all, can we take a moment to appreciate how strong this woman is? Charlize Theron did Furiosa justice. She exuded calm, has a calculating mind and was ferocious when it got down to it. Her character was strong, magnificent and so amazingly badass I wanted to be her. Her style and my inspiration for this outfit made it quite difficult to choose something and stick to it. It had to be tough and it had to look good too.

Shirt: € 11     Jeans: € 35    Scarf: € 23     Boots: € 17   Boots (chunky heel): € 22     Bracelet (metallic): €13      Bracelet(leather): €25   Belt: €18    Eyeliner: € 8.99
Total: € 150.99 without high heels          € 155.99 without flat boots
I tried to match her colour palette from the movie with a few varying shades. This outfit is something I will replicate and wear in the future. I went for a light and unfitted top; hot weather and tight clothes do not go well together at all, so I aimed for something light and airy for the torso to counter act the darkness of the bottoms.
I chose a light, loose blouse with buttons. Although buttons aren’t reliable in an apocalyptic wasteland, as there wouldn’t be a Hickeys you could nip to if you need to replace one, but luckily for us that isn’t the case. So a button down blouse was the perfect choice for me, as it takes the look from ‘strolling around town’ casual to ‘I can go out in this later’ casual. I also had to add yet another infinity scarf for this look, which has made me face up to my possible scarf addiction.
They are a lot handier to manoeuvre when it comes to protecting your head and neck quickly, without having to readjust them too much. I chose to stay away from an under bust corset or waist cincher and opted for a pair of black high waisted jeans and a thick brown belt instead. These items will really get that interesting layered look that Furiosa pulls off so well. I couldn’t leave out her prosthetic, so I paid homage to it by using multiple bracelets with a metallic look and a couple of leather ones to tie in the jewellery to the rest of the outfit. As for the footwear, I decided on two options: heeled boots and flat boots. Stilettos make very bad get away shoes.
