Music Monday – Like A Boss

There’s nothing quite like a Monday morning to make you feel like you’re about to head into battle. You’ll wake up groggy and grumpy after too little sleep due to an impromptu Netflix marathon. Then you’ll drag yourself to the kitchen and sigh to yourself as you make a sub-par breakfast of stale coco pops and tea. Not exactly the best way to start the week, is it? It’s easy to fall into a routine where we look to Monday with dread, because it’s the end of the weekend and the start of another week of being stuck at work or in school. But Monday isn’t going anywhere; it’s time to face it with a more positive light, and nothing helps more than a peppy playlist and a badass attitude.
We’ve compiled a list of energetic, sing-it-in-the-shower beats that’ll make you feel like a boss every day of the week.
Monday: Aerosmith ft. RUN DMC – Walk This Way
Getting screamed at by Steven Tyler is what everyone needs to get them out of bed in the morning, particularly on a Monday. Whether you want to throw your iPod across the room to make it stop or you immediately throw the covers off and start playing air guitar on top of your sheets, either way, it gets results. Tyler’s screeching vocals don’t come in until 1:37, so you have almost 2 minutes to convince yourself to get your butt out of bed. This is also a great song for when you’re on your way to work, especially if you’re walking, but just don’t get so carried away you end up dancing around the streets like Peter Parker in Spiderman 3. Nobody wants to see that!

Tuesday: The Offspring – You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid
It’s still the start of the week, and you have a few more days to go before you can start really catching that weekend fever. You might feel like a grown up most of the time, but sometimes it’s nice to revisit those long teenage days stretching out on the grass in the park, days when you accepted lyrics as gospel. So if you’re having a bad day, or you need a pick-me-up, go for something that convinces you that you’ll be absolutely fine, like ‘You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid’. Just don’t go skiving off work or anything; we’re not encouraging a total regression into your teenage years!

Wednesday: Good Charlotte – The Anthem
The mid-week hump; you’re right bang in the middle and things should be starting to look up. You can either look at the week as half-full and make the most of your 9 until 5, or as half-empty and waste the few days leading up to Friday counting down the minutes. The end is in sight and you can finally start planning your weekend without feeling like it’s far off.

Thursday: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton – Can’t Hold Us
This song makes you want to buy a pirate ship and set sail to explore new places, with a cooler full of beer and the sun blaring down on your face. It’s a long song, so for 7 whole minutes you can zone out and imagine whatever you want to. Sure, it’ll be a depressing comedown when you have to finally get off the bus and head into your dull work building, but there’s always the replay button!

Friday: LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem ft. Lauren Bennett, GoonRock
Finally, it’s the end of the week and you can breeze past your colleagues with a spring in your step, embracing the outside world free from the shackles of work. You may as well have escaped prison, so now it’s time to get pumped! We love the video for this song too, as it depicts an apocalypse caused by too much party rocking. You may not be shuffling everyday, but it’s necessary on a Friday.

Saturday: James Brown – Get On Up
You may be recovering from Friday as best as you can before yet another session later tonight; hey, Monday is coming up so you might as well make it a double! Listen to ‘Get On Up’ if you need to get hyped; sometimes you need to make yourself feel like a sex machine to become one!

Sunday: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell
You’re on a bit of a downer today and you’re probably nursing a mammoth hangover after two whole days on the sauce. You know it’s the end of the weekend, and you want to make the most of the day while you can. You already slept late! You’re going to need some catchy tunes when you’re making yourself a big dirty fry, so try ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ and feel like a badass who can face anything for the week ahead.
