At C2E2, the DC Universe Panel was taken over by one Brian Azzarello, who took the time to announce that Frank Miller would be returning to the aged Batman of his The Dark Knight Returns graphic novel for a threequel; The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race.
The Dark Knight Returns is one of the most popular and enduring of Batman’s tales, as it features an older Bruce Wayne taking on, and beating, Superman. The 1986 original was followed up in 2001 by The Dark Knight Strikes Again, with this announcement turning the series into a trilogy that has been rumored for months now.
Speaking at the panel, Brian said, “For the past six months, I’ve been working with Frank Miller to bring the next chapter in the ‘Dark Knight’ to light. It’s been humbling. I’ve learned a lot, and I call him sensei. It’s a really, really big project.
There is as yet no artist tied to the project, but the image below, released by DC, confirms a Fall 2015 release date.
