Bestselling Book ‘The Selection’ Adaption In The Works

Described as similar to The Hunger Games but without all the killing, The Selection is the first in a series of bestselling novels by writer Kiera Cass. Now, Warner Bros. have garnered the film rights to the popular story and it’s set to be adapted into a movie!

With 3.5 million copies sold worldwide and with another two books on the way, this could be the start of a very successful
movie franchise. It may not quite reach the stratospheric popularity that Twilight did, but the story might be interesting enough to warrant a visit to the cinema when it comes out.

The-Selection-collage
The story follows 35 underprivileged girls who are picked to compete against each other to win a life of luxury. Okay, that part sounds a bit like a gameshow, but bear with us. The protagonist, America Singer (have we lost you?), likes a boy from her poor district until she’s exposed to the opulence of living a royal life. As if her love troubles weren’t enough to keep her occupied, a rebel uprising threatens all of her plans as she struggles to survive in her new world.

Writer Katie Lovejoy will be tasked with adapting it, with Pouya Shahbazian, DiNovi Pictures’ Denise DiNovi and Alison Greenspan on board as producers.

This isn’t the first time there’s been interest in adapting The Selection, as it has hit the small screen twice now; episodes were released in 2012 and 2013 of pilots starring Aimee Teegarden and Yael Grobglas. The show was produced by Warner Bros. TV, a branch of Warner Bros., so as a company they seem quite invested in the premise.

Very few details have been released as of yet, but if you’re a fan of dystopian societies and strong female protagonists, be sure to watch this space.
