If you’re a cosplay fan, you’ve no doubt noticed your Facebook feed becoming inundated with pictures of well-known cosplayers all seemingly debuting the same costume on the same day for the same convention. Sounds a bit sketchy, no?
Of course it does, since it’s an elaborate prank pulled by Missyeru, who told me in a Facebook chat she wanted to one-up her Vi face tattoo prank from last year, and she’s definitely pulled that off. I’ll let her explain further:
“I spent 5-6 months brain storming, a secret group of 250+ members was made a month and a half ago, and in the end there are over 100 people that contributed! I chose a very recognizable costume, which wouldn’t cost a lot to throw together, and would be a obvious troll choice.”
If the fact that the cosplayers were debuting this costume for Cerulean City Comic-Con didn’t clue you in, Missyeru announcing herself as the CEO of the convention definitely pushed it into obvious prank territory, but I have to admit I fell for it at first. She also told me that one of her goals was to get Kotaku to take notice of the prank, and while we may not be them we’d certainly like to extend congratulations for a fun, harmless and collaborative prank pulled off well.
